Autism and Environmental Factors

hc-logoHealthy Child, Healthy World, one of my favorite sites for child safety information, received permission to reprint an article highlighting the results of a study conducted by University of California scientists. Their conclusion: the exponential increase in Autism rates “cannot be explained by changes in doctors’ diagnoses and most likely is due to environmental exposures.” It’s an interesting and important read. You can find the article, titled, Autism: It’s the Environment, Not Just Doctors Diagnosing More Disease by clicking the link.

  1. Hi Beth, thanks for sharing this great article! It’s interesting that they mention infection. Dr Dietrich Klinghardt believes that many cases of Autism are a result low grade chronic infections in the mother. He says that this infection is passed to the child, taxes the immune system, and increases the potential for developmental issues in combination with exposure to toxins and electromagnetic radiation. Another interesting correlation is vitamin D deficiency. Autism rates started to significantly increase right around the time when the recommendations to avoid sun exposure started. If I remember correctly, it was around the late 80s.

  2. HAve you checked out Robert F Kennedy Jr’s web site. He has information there that states how all of our vaccines have a preservative in them that is mercury based and that its a definite link to it. I have a grandson that has it and he was fine until he started getting his vaccines as a child. The amount of this may apparently build up in their little bodies and cause the problem. I don’t believe that so many cases of autism started to show up until we started getting so many vaccinations. It was pretty much unheard of as far as I know in the 40’s and 50’s.
