Green Your July 4th Cookout

flagIf you’re planning a backyard cookout for the 4th of July this year, why not try to make it a little greener? There are lots of simple (and cost effective) steps you can take to make it happen.

1. Set up recycling receptacles. These can be plastic bins or paper grocery bags. Encourage guests to recycle their glass and aluminum beverage containers.

2. Buy local. Get as much of your meat and produce as possible locally. Head to your farmer’s market or a local farm to get meat and vegetables.

3. Go with reusables when possible. If you can, skip the disposable plates and cups and go with reusable items instead. If concerns about breakage are too great, consider products like Zak Designs Recycled Melamine 11-1/4-in BBQ Plates or disposable items made from 100% recycled plastic like Preserve Plates, Cups, and Cutlery.

Being a little greener usually requires only a little thought about the choices we make. Have a great holiday weekend, everyone.
